Now for an addition of all the awesome things I love about Colorado.

1.  Dry Air.  My moisturizing budget has dramatically increased since being home, and my cuticles are dry once again.  However, I like the dry air.  It feels comfortable.  And, my hair is behaving much better these days.

2.  Sunshine All the Time.  I left Portland at the most gorgeous time of year – sunny for three months straight.  What a bummer!  But, it’s pretty awesome that it’s sunny pretty much all the time in Colorado.

3.  Rain.  Wha???  What’s that you say?  Sunshine is awesome in Colorado, but what about rain?  The rain here is entirely different.  We have dramatic downpours, with thunder and lightning – and dark skies.  We have excitement!!!  Rain is rather consistent in the Pacific Northwest, and skies are shades of gray, not dark purple.  And, things aren’t really as dramatic as they are here.

4.  The Smell of Rain.  Not once, in the 16 months in Portland, did I ever really smell rain.  Colorado natives will understand what I mean here.  The aroma of rain just before a downfall is sensational – literally.  The scent of rain is truly one of my favorites.

5.  Peaches.  Oregon and Washington have tremendous produce – phenomenal.  It is fantastic.  But, Colorado has it with the peach!  I’ve never been to Georgia – so I would imagine such a crop in Savannah would win big. But for me, Colorado takes the cake on this one.

6.  Variety.  I really don’t care for the cold weather and am honestly not looking forward to the winter and snow come October.  However, Colorado has such variety in temperature and weather, that things become tolerable – even awesome.  30 degrees and a blizzard one day may equate to 75 degrees of sunshine the next.

7.  Health and Clean Air.  Oregon is a very “healthy” state, I think.  But, maybe because I was living downtown, I feel like I was constantly inhaling cigarette smoke.  I could hardly get in a clean breathe walking to and fro.  I really appreciate that clean Colorado air these days (of course, on days when the smokey haze from forest fires does not drift in).

8.  Family.  My family is here.  I love them dear.

9.  The Cheeseburger.  Denver, lays claim to the invention of the cheeseburger.  The trademark for the name Cheeseburger was awarded in 1935 to Louis Ballast. (I actually did not know this until just now – thanks google – but it’s pretty darn awesome, I think!).

10.  Wildlife.  Colorado has 222 state wildlife areas.  That’s pretty darn awesome!  No explanation or comment necessary.

11.  Oh, more more.  Aspen Trees.  In the fall – Of course New England has much more spectacular color across the board, but the golden quake of aspen trees in the fall here is awesome.

  1. I miss a good thunderstorm. Growing up in the Midwest, I became very accustom to thunderstorms and always enjoyed the experience, even as a little kid. There’s just something about the way the air feels and smells, the light in the sky, the noise, everything. I love thunderstorms!

  2. That whipped body butter looks so good I need to make that! My dad lived and studied in Colorado for 3 years when he was in university, I have quiet a few family friends there but have never been. Would love to visit some day!

    1. The body butter is amazing – the recipe is from Lauren at Empowered Sustenance. If you ever do make it to Colorado, be sure to let me know! I’d love to meet up with you.

      1. Definitely! We don’t know what will happen after 2 years of living in England but there could be a chance of coming back to the U.S. so let’s see! 🙂
