I’ve had my fair share of jerky in my years on this planet.

I’m all about protein and I’m all about ease…nothing complicated and nothing messy when I’m hungry and I’m on the go. I’m on the go a lot – believe it or not.

From camping and climbing trips in the days of yore, to domestic road trips international travel – oh, do I have a story to share about beef jerky in France – and then to just grabbing a bite as I head out the door at home, I need and I crave quick little pick me ups of protein.

But I’m really picky – as you know.

I like things just so.

I’ve reviewed other fabulous brands of jerky in the past, but with the introduction of Nick’s Sticks into my life…the jerky game has come to a whole new level.

They are truly something else.

Nick’s Sticks come in a variety of flavors:

  • Grass-Fed Beef
  • Grass-Fed Beef SPICY
  • Free Range Turkey
  • Free Range Turkey SPICY

I loved them all.
Great flavor. Great texture. Great size. Great packaging.

Flavor: I find my jerky to be overly salty, a bit too sweet, and I’ve only found one other brand that does not contain garlic. I’m allergic to garlic – so these are absolutely perfect, sans the allium. What’s more, even if you’re not me, you’ll leave without breathing dragon breathe on your peers – two thumbs up (maybe three) for that one.
The herb and spice combination Nick’s uses is out of this world…mustardy, tangy, a little spicy ~ but just perfect. I sort of felt like Goldilocks as I tasted and tried each of the flavors. My all-time favorite is definitely the plain turkey….

Texture: Turkey can often be dry, particularly in jerky. This is NOT the case here. These sticks are perfectly moist, which means no need to massage your jaw afterwards or frantically reach for your favorite beverage for fear of a stifling situation.

Size: With just one serving per package, the size and amount is perfect for a little snack. Being the organized compulsive humanoid that I am, having to reseal packages or re-wrap previously opened items seems senseless to me. I’m of the attitude, it’s either all or nothing. That bag of kale chips, you’ll see me eat the whole thing. Done. There’s no “eat[ing] half a Powerbar, wrap[ping] up the rest, and put[ting] in the fridge” for later. What’s more, “when you pierce the skin of a piece of fruit, you’ve bought the whole fruit. Not a third of an apple, not a half of a banana…”
In any case, these two stick snacks are just the right size for this little Goldilocks.

Packaging: Finally, along the same lines as the perfection of size, I love the packaging of Nick’s Sticks. You know when you stick your hand inside that bag of garlicky spiced dry jerky and lay that morsel in your mouth…your hand is left with the savory sweet aroma of jerky lingering for many miles…(if you’re on the road). Well, with a peel back package and the ability to stick those suckers right into your mouth, we’ve got a genius creation “on our hands,” that won’t leave them aromatic. It’s all “in your mouth and not [on] your hand.” Well done, folks. Well done.

All in all, I’m a big fan, as you can see.

I can’t wait to get my hands on (or not) my next Nick’s Sticks turkey snack.

Thanks, guys!
