When I mentioned to Brian my idea of creating a magnificent sweet and savory strawberry salsa for our pasta dinner party, he grimaced and said, “I don’t like my sweet with my savory.” I responded, “Well, this time it’s not about you.” And his retort, “Fine. Just make sure there’s no cinnamon.”

And that was that.

We both won.

I wanted to amalgamate so many of my favorite flavors into one, for a special occasion with many of my favorite friends and family.
I whipped together some homemade Basil Bread & Fresh Lime Butter (Lemon Butter too), homemade Lemon Basil Pasta, tossed with olive oil, sea salt and pepper, and fresh Parmesan, and a salsa/relish/salad of sorts. It’s sweet, it’s spicy, it’s savory, and don’t worry, it does not contain cinnamon. It’s a Savory Strawberry Salsa, I’d say.

Oh, and we also finished off a Magnum bottle of some exceptional rosé wine.

It was a blast!

Savory Strawberry Salsa

3/4 lb. fresh strawberries, thinly sliced
2 Tbs. Preserved Lemons, rinsed and sliced
1/2 cup Castlevetrano olives, pitted and sliced
1/2 cup Marcona almonds
1 Tbs. extra virgin olive oil
1 Tbs. fresh basil, thinly sliced
sea salt and freshly ground pepper

Toss all ingredients together and allow the flavors to meld for 30-60 minutes before serving over pasta, on fresh baked bread, over grilled meat and fish – really, eat this baby with anything!
