I was bedazzled by the Mint Mojito I had over the summer.
Thus, I had to have my hand at something somewhat similar.
But with a touch of vanilla..and orange..and basil.
And, of course, I had to pull out the kitchen torch.
Vanilla Orange Basil Muddled Rum
1 small orange, coarsely chopped (reserving 2 slices)
1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
1 tsp. raw sugar
1/8 tsp. vanilla extract
3 oz. white rum
3 oz. club soda
1/2 tsp. raw sugar
Muddle the orange, basil, sugar, and vanilla well at the bottom of a serving glass. Add the rum and stir well.
Meanwhile, using a kitchen torch, brûlée the 2 orange slices toped with 1/2 tsp. sugar.
Add the ice and club soda to the cocktail and top with the brûléed orange slices.
