Oven-roasted chickpeas are about as simple as it gets — toss with olive oil and salt, roast, eat…and this time, add a little wasabi powder for a real kick!

They are a genius snack. You know you have those cans of beans lurking in the back of the cupboard, just begging to be used.

Hummus?

Maybe.

But something crunchy. Something salty. Something satisfying…and this time, a little something sweet and hot!

Wasabi Roasted Chickpeas

2 15-ounce cans chickpeas
2 Tbs. olive oil
2 tsp. raw sugar
1 tsp. wasabi powder
1/2 to 3/4 tsp. Hamptons Salt Matcha sea salt

Rinse and drain the chickpeas and then rub them between two kitchen towels to get them as dry as possible.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Toss the chickpeas with olive oil and salt, coating thoroughly. Toss again with the wasabi and sugar.
Spread evenly over a metal baking sheet and roast for about 20 or 30 minutes, until crispy and slightly darkened, tossing every 6-7 minutes.
“They will gradually lose their crispiness as they cool, becoming addictively chewy.”

Sprinkle over salads and veggies or simply snack by the handful.
