There’s something remarkably unique and delicious about pulled pork sandwiches, right? Many venues will work with pulled chicken, brisket, or beef – but the pork texture is the key.
So, what are we to do in the case of plant-based meals, vegan friendly, and environmentally conscious eating days?
The answer is jackfruit!
Yes. It’s a tricky little fruit, absorbing all the flavors in which it is immersed, but also displaying the perfect texture of, you guessed it, pulled pork!

Thus, vegan bbq pulled pork sandwich sliders now become BBQ Jackfruit Twist!

Vegan BBQ Pulled Pork Jackfruit Twist

1 recipe homemade Rustic Pizza Dough
1 Tbs. olive oil
1/2 yellow onion, diced
sea salt and pepper
1 lb. shredded jackfruit (fresh, frozen, or canned)
20 oz. mild bbq sauce (sweet and smoky)
1 cup vegan cheddar cheese, shredded

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.

In a large pot, heat the oil and sauté the onion with salt and pepper. Add the jackfruit and cook until super tender. Stir in the bbq sauce and let simmer for 10-15 minutes, thickening.

Roll out the pizza dough on a well-floured surface and spread into a large rectangle. Sprinkle with the cheese. Then, top with the bbq jackfruit.
Roll up, twist turn, and create your savory pastry.

Bake for 20 minutes.

Allow to cool 10 minutes before breaking apart to serve!

Or, create buns with the pizza dough and serve the jackfruit as sammys or sliders!
